PDF is the abbreviation for "Portable Document Format" and was developed in 1993 by Adobe System as a platform-independent file format.
PDF documents can be opened on any computer. Therefore, PDF has established itself as a fixed size among the file formats.
It can be created from text and images. At the same time, the layout that the author used when creating the layout is retained in the PDF document. This means that the PDF looks the same on every computer system. As a rule, it is therefore not so easy to edit a PDF file.
Use of PDF Documents
- Distribution of documents whose layout should not differ from that of the original document
- Distribution of documents via the Internet, the implementation of which as HTML code would be too cumbersome
- Publication of interactive documents such as instructions for use, manuals or advice, which can quickly provide help with certain problems by linking within the document
- Archiving of documents in electronic form and over a longer period of time
