ColdFusion is used to create dynamic web applications and is compared to internet scripting languages such as ASP and PHP. The term ColdFusion covers two different topics: ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) and ColdFusion Application Server.

Adobe ColdFusion makes it easy to develop beautiful, dynamic Internet or Intranet applications that are hosted on a single server. ColdFusion's tag-based development language CFML offers an easy entry into programming and offers experienced developers very powerful tools.

ColdFusion Markup Language & ColdFusion Application Server

    1. ColdFusion Markup Language, or CFML for short is a simple tag-based language that is used to create Internet applications. The simple and HTML-close syntax enables a steep learning curve, especially for beginners, and stable high-performance - in short - web applications can be created within a very short time. For numerous routine programming tasks, CFML provides uncomplicated and efficient methods that enable rapid application development (RAD). In addition, ColdFusion has provided all the tools required for object-oriented programming (OOP) since generation 6.

    2. The second piece of the puzzle under the term ColdFusion is the ColdFusion Application Server. It is responsible for compiling (Adobe, Railo) or interpreting (openBD) ColdFusion code. The application server receives page requests from the web server (Microsoft IIS, Apache, Jetty etc.), processes the CFML commands and delivers the result back to the web server and is therefore referred to as so-called middleware.

Why we use ColdFusion?

  • ColdFusion provides excellent opportunities for both beginners and experienced developers to create stable software - RAD (Rapid Application Development) becomes a reality with ColdFusion.
  • ColdFusion is freely available - for developers as well as for professional use.
  • ColdFusion offers excellent interfaces to other web technologies (Flash, Flex, Ajax, web services) and databases (Microsoft SQL-Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Apache Derby etc.) out of the box.
  • ColdFusion enables both procedural and object-oriented programming.
  • ColdFusion has an excellent user community.
